This ride didn’t but also somewhat did go to plan. We tried to see if it was indeed accessible to do a Blackbutt loop returning via the rail trail from Harlin. We expected that it didn’t so we had a backup plan if it wasn’t and we would explore more of the local area and dead end roads before checking out some other possible ride locations further north.
And as expected we were greeted with a no through road sign not long into the ride. Plan B was then activated. We checked out some of the gravel roads filling in our riding map of the area as we went along.
After exploring all the local roads to the west of Harlin we headed north to do some reconnaissance for some of our future planned rides from the eastern and western branches of the Brisbane River north of Linville. The aim was to investigate to see if it was possible to link up with other areas we have previously done such as linking Linville to Jimna/the Eastern and Western branch/Nanango. The reconnaissance looked promising so future ride dates were booked in with the final intention to do a loop route from Linville travelling north to Jimna via Wrattens National Park and back via the Monsildale stock route. A ride not for the faint hearted.
